Why You’re Not Wealthy: The Role of Language and Mindset

The reason you’re not wealthy isn’t that you’re not putting in the effort. It’s not because you’re failing to read your affirmations, create vision boards, or take action. The real reason lies in how your mind perceives wealth. Your entire life, you’ve been programmed to believe that someone like you could never have what wealthy people have. Deep within your subconscious, you’ve been made to feel broke. The language you use daily reinforces this belief. It limits you and frames your desires from a perspective of longing and lack.
The Language of Scarcity
Take a moment to reflect on how you speak to yourself. Do you often say things like:
“I want to do this.”
“I’m going to have this.”
“I need this.”
“If I just had this, then everything would be better.”
Does any of this sound familiar? If so, you’re speaking like someone who operates from a place of scarcity. These phrases come from a mindset of lack. They signal to your subconscious mind that you don’t currently have what you desire, creating an energetic gap between you and your goals. When you say “I want,” the energy behind those words is rooted in absence. It tells your subconscious mind that the object of your desire is separate from you. As a result, your mind continues to create more experiences of “wanting,” because that’s the energy you’re exuding.
The Subconscious at Work
Your subconscious mind takes your words literally. When you repeatedly say, “I want this,” your subconscious hears, “Give me more of wanting.” It doesn’t distinguish between your desires and your current state—it simply responds to the energy behind your words. This is why wealthy people don’t often say, “I want.” Instead, they affirm, “I have.” Their language exudes confidence and certainty. They speak from a place of ownership and alignment, where there is no separation between them and what they’re manifesting.
Wanting vs. Having
Here’s the critical distinction:
Wanting creates separation. It implies that you and your desires are not connected.
Having fosters attraction. It creates oneness between you and your goals, programming your mind to seek opportunities that align with abundance.
When you shift your language to focus on “having” rather than “wanting,” you step into a state of alignment where your goals feel present and achievable.
Why Words Matter
You might think, “It’s just phrasing—how can that possibly matter?” But words carry energy, and that energy shapes your reality. When you say, “I want something,” you’re focusing on the lack of it in the present moment. Since everything you manifest happens in the now, this language perpetuates a cycle of wanting, keeping your desires just out of reach. For example, saying, “I will do what’s necessary to get that thing,” implies that you’re not already taking action. This reinforces a state of inaction, leading to procrastination and delays. Days turn into weeks, and weeks into months, yet your goals remain distant because the language of lack keeps you energetically stuck.
Changing Your Language to Change Your Reality
To attract your desires, you must stop operating from a mindset of “wanting” and step into the energy of “having.” This begins with awareness and intentionality in how you speak.
Step 1: Observe Your Language
Spend a day listening to how you speak. Note down any phrases or words that reflect scarcity, such as “I want,” “I need,” or “I wish.”
Step 2: Replace Words of Lack
For every phrase rooted in wanting, choose an alternative that reflects having. For instance:
Instead of “I want success,” say, “I embody success.”
Instead of “I need more money,” say, “I am abundant.”
Every time you catch yourself using language of lack, stop and correct yourself. Over time, this practice will rewire your subconscious mind to think and speak from a place of abundance.
Step 3: Use Affirmations and Subliminals
Affirmations and subliminals are powerful tools to reprogramme your subconscious mind. By listening to positive, intentional messages while you sleep, you can overwrite years of limiting beliefs and begin speaking from a mindset of abundance effortlessly.
Why It Takes Time
Reprogramming your language won’t happen overnight. For years, you’ve spoken and thought in a way that reflects scarcity. Changing this pattern requires consistent effort and patience. But awareness is the first step. By recognising the words you use and intentionally shifting them, you’ll gradually see changes in your reality.
When you change your language, you change your life. Words are powerful—they shape your beliefs, your actions, and ultimately, your results.
To start, listen to yourself speak and identify words of lack. Replace them with words of abundance. Use affirmations and subliminals to reinforce this new way of thinking. With time, you’ll find yourself not wanting your desires, but living them.
