The Trees in Your Mind: How Your Thoughts Shape Your Reality

By now, many of us have come to recognise that our thoughts shape our reality. The way we think influences our perspective, which in turn determines the actions we take. Your mind is like a garden, and from the moment you are born, you begin planting seeds—seeds that sprout into trees over time. These trees represent the core beliefs that shape your life. You have the tree of self-worth, the tree of confidence, the tree of self-esteem, the tree of determination, the tree of love, and many more. Each one influences how you perceive yourself and the world around you.

For instance, if your tree of self-worth is barren—if it has not been nurtured with affirmations and care—you may struggle with feelings of unworthiness. Without attention, that tree withers while the tree of low self-esteem flourishes, reinforcing the illusion that you are not enough. This belief attracts experiences and relationships that validate it, shaping your reality in ways that keep you feeling small. The key to transformation is recognising that you are never truly lacking—rather, you are abundant in something. A perceived lack of self-worth means you are overflowing with self-insignificance. A scarcity of confidence signifies an abundance of self-doubt. You are always full of something—whether it empowers you or diminishes you.

This is why you consistently encounter situations that reinforce your internal beliefs. It’s not that others deliberately seek to make you feel insignificant—it’s that your internal world manifests externally. Your trees—your thoughts—construct your reality. To transform your life, you must uproot the trees that hinder your growth and cultivate those that align with the life you are committed to living. This principle applies to every emotion we experience.

We live in a world of duality, on a spectrum where one end holds what we desire, and the other contains what we resist. Your mindset dictates where you land on this spectrum. To shift your reality, begin by tending to the garden of your mind—prune the trees that deplete you and nourish the ones that elevate you.

How Do You Uproot Those Trees?

The first step is cultivating awareness of your social environment. Who do you allow into your space? Who has access to your energy? The people in your life influence your thoughts, and since like attracts like, you naturally gravitate toward those who reflect your mindset. If you surround yourself with individuals who reinforce self-doubt, scarcity, or fear, those beliefs will continue to expand. The key is awareness—without it, nothing changes, and you remain stuck in cycles that work against you.

Ending ties with certain people is not always easy. Many hesitate out of fear—fear of loneliness, uncertainty, or confrontation. However, choosing yourself means choosing a reality where your desires are not just distant dreams but tangible experiences. The people you surround yourself with either support or obstruct the manifestation of those desires.

Every ‘yes’ to someone else can be a ‘no’ to yourself—to your peace, your evolution, and your future. Many cling to familiarity, afraid of what lies ahead. But holding on to relationships that stunt your growth is far more damaging than the temporary discomfort of letting go. Growth demands movement. If those around you resist expansion while you pursue it, you must be willing to step forward and align with individuals who seek expansion. Change is uncomfortable, but stagnation is far more painful in the long run.

Facing Resistance

When you begin prioritising yourself, expect resistance. Those you distance yourself from may not grasp your journey. You may hear statements like, ‘You think you’re better than us,’ or ‘You’ll fail without us.’ These words are merely survival mechanisms of the tree you are uprooting. It will fight to survive, attempting to convince you to water it instead of removing it. Recognise these attempts for what they are—manifestations of outdated thought patterns trying to restrain you. Ignore them. Move forward.

Creating Space for Growth

To sustain change, you must replace what you remove. Do this by seeking out communities and environments that nurture the trees you wish to grow. If you find yourself struggling to connect with the right people, it may be time for solitude. Solitude is not loneliness—it is an opportunity for self-discovery. Ask yourself: Who am I becoming? What kind of life am I creating? This process of reflection allows you to set new intentions and align with what you truly desire.

Purging old energy looks different for everyone. Some find healing through therapy, journaling, or meditation. Others express their emotions through movement, art, or nature. Whatever your process, embrace it. Uprooting old beliefs requires intentional effort, but it is necessary for transformation.

Shadow work is particularly powerful for this. It illuminates unconscious patterns, allowing you to identify the trees shaping your reality without your awareness. Through this practice, you expose the roots of your beliefs and gain the power to shift them. Explore our shadow work catalogue to find the cards that align with the areas you are ready to transform. These tools provide the guidance and reflection needed to deepen your journey and cultivate lasting change.

Actionable Steps to Transform Your Reality

  1. Self-Reflection: Examine your core beliefs. What narratives do you repeat to yourself? What beliefs have sculpted your experiences? Journaling can help you unveil these patterns.

  2. Assess Your Social Circles: Who do you surround yourself with? Do they embody the qualities you are cultivating? If not, establish boundaries or distance yourself from relationships that no longer align.

  3. Practice Affirmations: Speak life into the trees you are nurturing. Affirmations like ‘I am worthy,’ ‘I am enough,’ and ‘I deserve love and abundance’ help rewire your subconscious.

  4. Engage in Shadow Work: Uncover and confront hidden beliefs that have dictated your reality. Acknowledge past traumas and limiting thoughts that no longer serve you.

  5. Curate Your Environment: Surround yourself with uplifting content—books, podcasts, music, and people who reinforce the reality you are stepping into.

  6. Take Inspired Action: Transformation is not just a mental shift—it requires action. Step into environments that align with your growth, whether that means attending workshops, seeking mentorship, or showing up for yourself daily.
